This summer, we will be running weekly Caban Sgriblio creative writing sessions for young people aged 14-18 in Brecon Library.
From Tuesday 4 June, 4-6pm, young people can take part in these FREE drop-in sessions, led by writer and Caban Sgriblio Project Coordinator Uschi Turoczy.
Whether you are experimenting with writing for the first time or you already have a bit of experience, join in and explore where your imagination will take you. It’s an opportunity to express yourself in a relaxed and welcoming environment with other like-minded young people.
“Caban Sgriblio is very very fun, you learn a lot of new things and make a lot of new friends. And everyone is very accepting of everyone’s different personalities…it’s a really good experience.”
~ Jenna, Caban Sgriblio Participant
We’re delighted that artist Tessa Waite is joining the Caban Sgriblio creative writing group this summer to inspire participants with insights from her combined writing and visual arts practice.
“I am excited to be working with young writers on Caban Sgriblio and to finding out what matters to them most. Writing has become more central to my practice. I use free writing, finding that writing continuously generates a flow, creates new energy and direction and is a means of connecting to ideas that lie just beneath the surface of my thinking. Handwriting is also a very personal form of mark making. I have been combining words and objects, allowing each to offer something to the other, a new definition. Last Autumn I did a residency at The Story of Books, Hay on Wye during which I invited people to share the enduring impact of a book from childhood. Based on the dialogue we shared I made a visual book in response, finding marks or images intuitively. During this project I will be offering ways of working on different scales and with a range of materials, whilst responding to the direction of the group. I am looking forward to sharing and developing our ideas together.”

We will supply all the materials and offer guidance when you need it. The participants will determine the direction of the sessions according to their interests, touching on identity, place, experience and memory.
