“Themes we’d like to see programmed here: Neurodiversity, sustainable living, resilient communities for the future, slowing down, wellbeing, LGBTQ, making and fixing clothes, climate change…” – members of sPeak
Since December 2018 we have been working with a group of 15 young people aged 16-25 from South Powys, Monmouthshire and Heads of the Valleys from our projects to develop a youth advisory group for the organisation, which they’ve self-titled sPeak.
With a focus on running projects for this age group, we know we have a responsibility to not only provide young people with opportunities but also with adequate representation and a platform to share their voice.
sPeak meet and eat together on a quarterly basis and discuss issues, ideas and act as ‘critical friends’ to existing projects as well as helping us to develop new ones. Working alongside artists and the Peak staff team, the group aim to develop a series of events at the Peak Studio throughout 2020 responding to their collective passions and interests.
Please consider joining us for our first public event on Saturday 18th April. We’ll be back with updates at the beginning of 2020 with more details.
Themes we’re thinking about: People’s Assembly, community – combining age groups and demographics, design, state, theatre, books, DIY, accessible, zines, printing, music, writing, poetry, yoga, vegan cooking classes, fermentation, mental health, abstract film, holistic health, charity shops, Welsh culture and history…
