Our popular five-day summer schools enable students to develop their own projects and interests, with the support of a professional tutor in the Peak studio.
Pottery Summer School with Martin Craddock
Concentrating on the making process this practical summer school introduces the fundamental techniques used in hand-built ceramics. Martin Craddock, our trained potter and tutor will guide you through coiling, slabbing and press-moulded dish making. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Life Drawing with Tony Tribe
A monthly class concerned with the importance of observation of the human figure. You will work directly from the life model with artist, Tony Tribe, on hand to provide individual guidance. The course will equip you with the technical and perceptual skills to competently render the human figure. Each session will feature a long pose of two or three hours length, although shorter poses are always incorporated into the day. Students will be introduced to key areas of life drawing: measuring, proportion, anatomy, line, tone and mass.
Suitable for all abilities. Places fill up quickly, early booking is advised.

Basket Making with Mary Zammit
Artisan Basket Maker and Willow Craftswoman, Mary Zammit, will introduce you to the skills and techniques of this ancient craft. Using locally grown willow you’ll learn how to design and construct your own basket from scratch. The classes allow opportunity to work on your own personal project under the expert guidance of Mary. You’ll need a sharp pocket knife, secateurs and a medium flat-headed screw driver.
Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Artist Rachel Cadman brings over 25 years of experience of working in the arts and crafts industry. Over the four weeks of this course she will teach you a range of printmaking techniques, such as screen printing, drypoint etching, lino printing and collograph.

Life Writing with Renée Stanton
Life Writing allows people to write about their own lives and not get bogged down in plot, character, beginnings and endings. Everybody has stories to tell, drawn from their own experience and Life Writing can give them a voice.
We will explore and map our lives through different means such as objects, letters and historical moments. We will also read some examples of Life Writing together (poetry as well as prose) and share our thoughts and emotional responses.
A journal and materials will be provided.

Writing Workshop: Understanding Your Narrative
Bestselling author Helena Attlee will lead this half-day workshop for creative freelancers. Our stories define who we are and what we do. This workshop will help you to identify the story of your work and communicate it effectively to audiences, clients and communities.

TRIBE
Tribe is a monthly workshop for young artists and their families.
These playful workshops will explore a wide range of arts and crafts including Drawing, Painting, Printing, Ceramics and Textiles. The afternoon sessions in the Peak studio provide a relaxed and friendly environment within which the children can create and learn. Families and families of all kinds are encouraged to stay for refreshments and join in the activity.
Age guide: 7-11 years
SATURDAYS: 12th Jan, 9th Feb, 9th March, 13th April.
Sessions are FREE. We ask for a donation of £3 per child per session to cover the cost of materials.
